How It Works
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that irreversibly binds to the H⁺/K⁺ ATPase
enzyme in the gastric parietal cells. This enzyme is the final step in the production of
hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Inhibition leads to a significant reduction in acid secretion,
thereby increasing gastric pH and alleviating symptoms related to excess stomach acid.

 Known hypersensitivity to Esomeprazole or any other proton pump inhibitor (PPI)
 History of hypersensitivity reactions such as:
o Angioedema
o Anaphylaxis
o Bronchospasm
o Acute interstitial nephritis
o Urticaria

Precaution
Long-term daily use (more than 3 years) may impair absorption of vitamin B12
(cyanocobalamin), possibly leading to deficiency.
Eskem Capsules Warnings
Warning 1:
Prolonged PPI use may lead to hypomagnesemia. Monitor magnesium levels during long-term
therapy.
Warning 2:
Chronic or high-dose use of PPIs may increase the risk of osteoporosis-related fractures (hip,
wrist, spine).
Warning 3:
Avoid co-administration of Esomeprazole with clopidogrel, as it may reduce the effectiveness
of clopidogrel.
