How It Works
Fenofibrate is a fibric acid derivative that acts by activating Peroxisome ProliferatorActivated Receptor Alpha (PPARα). Activation of this receptor results in:
 Increased lipolysis and elimination of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins
 Activation of lipoprotein lipase
 Reduction in apoprotein C-III production
 Increased synthesis of apoproteins A-I and A-II
These actions reduce VLDL and LDL (bad cholesterol), raise HDL (good cholesterol), and
reduce levels of small, dense LDL, which are associated with atherosclerosis.

Dosage

Indication
Fenoget is indicated:
 As adjunctive therapy to diet for reducing elevated LDL-C, Total-C, Triglycerides
(TG), Apo B
 To increase HDL-C in adults with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia
When Not to Use
Do not use in patients with:
 Known hypersensitivity to fenofibrate or any ingredient
 Severe renal dysfunction
 Liver disease, including unexplained liver enzyme abnormalities
 Pre-existing gallbladder disease
 Acute or chronic pancreatitis (unless caused by hypertriglyceridemia)
 Nursing mothers

Precaution

Warnings
Warning 1:
Regular liver function monitoring is required. Discontinue use if ALT (SGPT) stays elevated
beyond 3x normal levels.
Warning 2:
May increase cholesterol in bile, leading to gallstone formation (cholelithiasis). Discontinue if
gallstones are detected.
Warning 3:
Muscle symptoms (pain, tenderness, weakness) require immediate evaluation. Discontinue if
myopathy or rhabdomyolysis is suspected.
