How it works: Blocks the activity of Entamoeba histolytica by inhibiting energy production and
killing the bacteria and parasites
Dosage:
Diloxanide furoate, Metronidazole (as prescribed by a healthcare provider)
Side effects: Gastrointestinal upset, altered taste (dysgeusia), low white blood cell count
(leucopenia), hives (urticaria), swelling of the face or limbs (angioedema), central nervous
system disturbances, dark-colored urine, peripheral neuropathy, epileptiform seizures (with longterm use), and rare severe skin reactions (bullous eruptions)
Drug interactions:
May interact with anticoagulants, phenobarbital, lithium, alcohol, and phenytoin
Indication:
Treatment of acute, chronic, and hepatic amoebiasis, as well as systemic infections due to E.
histolytica and giardiasis
When not to use: Not recommended in cases of hypersensitivity to any component.
Contraindicated in alcohol intoxication, chronic alcohol use, liver disease, seizure disorders,
reduced seizure threshold, or peripheral nerve issues such as tingling or pain in hands and feet
Precaution: Inform your doctor if you are allergic to metronidazole, tinidazole, or any other
medications. Also disclose any known allergies before starting treatment
Warning 1: Disclose your full medical history before use, especially if you have liver problems,
