How It Works
Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal agent. It works by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P-450-
mediated 14 alpha-lanosterol demethylation, which is crucial in ergosterol biosynthesis, a
vital component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption causes loss of membrane integrity,
leading to fungal cell death. Fluconazole shows selectivity for fungal enzymes, minimizing
impact on human cells.
