How It Works:
Domperidone’s antiemetic effect is due to a combination of:
 Peripheral gastrokinetic action (enhances gastrointestinal motility)
 Dopamine receptor antagonism in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (area postrema outside
the blood-brain barrier), reducing nausea and vomiting.

Indication:

When Not to Use:

 Significant electrolyte disturbances
 Underlying cardiac diseases such as congestive heart failure
Precautions:
 Increased risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death has been noted
epidemiologically.
 Use with caution especially in patients over 60 years of age.
 Monitor for cardiac symptoms during treatment.
Warnings:
1. Patients over 60 should consult their physician before use.
2. Avoid use if prolonged QTc or significant electrolyte disturbances exist.
3. Stop treatment immediately if cardiac arrhythmia symptoms appear and seek medical
advice.
