How It Works
Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is produced in the skin under UV light and metabolized in the liver
and kidneys into the active form, 1,25-dihydroxy-cholecalciferol. This active form plays a
crucial role in regulating calcium and phosphate balance in the body, working alongside
parathyroid hormone and calcitonin.

Indications
1. Dietary supplement to prevent Vitamin D deficiency in adults and children.
2. Prevention of Vitamin D deficiency in high-risk patients (e.g., malabsorption, chronic
diseases, metabolic disorders, certain drugs).
3. Treatment of vitamin D deficiency conditions such as rickets, osteomalacia, and
osteoporosis.
Note: Calcium supplements should be provided along with Vitamin D.
When Not to Use (Contraindications)
 Hypersensitivity to cholecalciferol or ingredients
 Hypercalcemia and/or hypercalciuria
 Patients prone to calcium kidney stones
 Pseudohypoparathyroidism
Precautions
 Monitor dosage if other vitamin D or calcium supplements are being taken.
 Serum and urine calcium levels should be supervised during combined supplementation.
Warnings
1. Use with caution in patients with impaired renal calcium and phosphate excretion.
2. Reduce dosage or stop therapy in cases of hypercalcemia or impaired kidney function.
3. Use cautiously in sarcoidosis patients due to increased risk of elevated active vitamin D
metabolites.
