⚕️ Used For:
 Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
 Healing of erosive esophagitis (EE)
 Maintenance of healing of EE and heartburn relief
 Treatment of heartburn in non-erosive GERD
⚙️ How It Works:
Dexlansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that blocks the (H+, K+)-ATPase enzyme
on gastric parietal cells, which is the final step of gastric acid secretion. This reduces stomach
acid production, allowing healing and symptom relief.

 Common:
o Diarrhea

🚫 When Not to Use:
 Hypersensitivity to dexlansoprazole or any ingredient
 Concurrent use with rilpivirine-containing products
 Severe hepatic impairment
⚖️ Precautions:
 PPIs may increase risk of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, especially in
hospitalized patients
 Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible
⚠️ Warnings:
1. Osteoporosis-related fractures of hip, spine, or wrist have been reported with PPI
therapy; monitor patients at risk and manage accordingly.
2. Check serum magnesium levels before long-term therapy, especially if on digoxin,
diuretics, or other hypomagnesemia-inducing drugs.
3. Prolonged use can cause vitamin B12 deficiency due to malabsorption.
