Mechanism of Action:
Hyoscine Butylbromide works through its anticholinergic action, relaxing smooth muscles. It
blocks muscarinic receptors in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, relieving abdominal cramps and
spasms. It also binds to nicotinic receptors, causing a ganglion-blocking effect.
Indications:
Used for symptomatic relief of:
 Gastro-intestinal or genito-urinary tract spasms
 Excessive respiratory secretions
 Bowel colic (especially in palliative care)
Dosage:
 As prescribed by a physician
 Based on age, weight, and clinical condition
Side Effects:
 Constipation
 Transient bradycardia (may be followed by tachycardia, palpitations, arrhythmias)
 Reduced bronchial secretions
 Urinary urgency or retention
 Pupil dilation and loss of accommodation
